World Mental Health Day

The World Health Organization celebrates World Mental Health Day on 10 October raises public awareness about mental health issues. The Day promotes more open discussion of mental disorders, and investments in prevention and treatment services. The treatment gap for mental, neurological and substance use disorders is formidable especially in poor resource countries.
Physical and mental health are intertwined. There is a real need to deal with mental health problems of people with chronic physical illnesses and physical care of mental health consumers through a continued and integrated care.

Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk

Nationals Park - October 2, 2010
The Memory Walk is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research. Participants typically register in teams of 10-12. One and 2 mile options.

 

Maryland Renaissance Festival

The annual 6-week festival recreates a 16th century English village with crafts, food, live performances on 8 stages, a jousting arena and lots of games. The Maryland Renaissance Festival is a fun family event held in Anne Arundel County, about 30 miles from Washington, DC. (August-October)


National Fire Prevention Week

October 3-9, 2010. Attention is focused this week on promoting fire safety and prevention.


Arena Stage Grand Reopening

October 23, 2010, 12-6 p.m. The theatre reopens after a $135 million renovation with free performances, events, demonstrations and lectures.


Mount Vernon Fall Harvest Days

October 23 - 24, 2010. Celebrate the season with horse-drawn wagon rides, wheat treading in the 16-sided barn, a straw bale maze, early-American games, music and demonstrations.


Fall Frolic at Glen Echo Park

October 30, 2010, 1-4 p.m. The Halloween event celebrates the arts through hands-on crafts, live performances, and activities for all ages.
